BASIC CHECKLIST FOR DETERMINING WARRANTY COVERAGE


Number 1

Verify if the dealer has checked Service Advisor to determine if the repair is covered under:

  • Basic Vehicle Warranty
  • Extended Warranty (Purchased by Customer)
  • Supplier Extended Warranty ('One-Stop' Warranty)
  • Engine Manufacturer's Warranty. Refer to the following engine manufacturer hotlines for engine coverage information:


    • Caterpillar........(800) 477-4986
    • Cummins..........(800) 343-7357
    • Detroit Diesel...(800) 332-4410

  • Outstanding Recall Campaigns and/or Field Service Modifications


The following screens should be viewed during each visit:
  • Recall Campaigns/Field Service Modifications
  • Warranty Coverage Inquiry
  • Supplier Coverage Inquiry

In the event that the dispatcher/driver cannot reach an agreement concerning warranty coverages, a representative of the Alliance Customer Assistance Center should be contacted at 1-800-FTL-HELP (385-4357), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week or the Alliance Warranty Department at (800) 547-9314, Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 5:00pm Pacific Standard Time.



Number 2

If the dispatcher or driver, after accomplishing the above warranty determination, still feels that the repair should be covered under warranty, he/she should:

  • Provide the dealer with the instructions as to where and how the parts that are removed from the truck during the repair should be shipped. These returned parts should be shipped freight collect.
  • Upon returning to the fleet terminal, provide all supporting documentation (invoices for repairs and freight charges to return the failed parts) to their local supporting dealer and request that a subsequent warranty determination be made and that a warranty claim be submitted if deemed warrantable.
  • The freight charges should be included on the warranty claim. If it is determined that the repair is covered under warranty, Alliance will reimburse the customer for the incurred freight.


Number 3

What repairs/charges are excluded from the warranty? Use the following guidelines to determine status:

IMPORTANT: Exclusions will vary between Freightliner, American La France, and Freightliner Custom Chassis.

Normal Maintenance
Routine Maintenance services and adjustments, as defined in the applicable Freightliner maintenance and driver's manuals are excluded from warranty.

Consumable Parts
Parts that are subject to consumption during their normal service life are not covered under warranty unless found defective due to a quality problem. Items include but are not limited to:
  • Belts
  • Brake linings
  • Clutch linings
  • Data logger batteries
  • Filters; fuel, air, oil, water, and desiccant cartridges
  • Fluorescent ballast and tubes
  • Floor mats
  • Fuses
  • Light bulbs and non-reusable sealed light assemblies
  • Mud flaps
  • Receiver-drier filter/suction accumulator
  • Wiper blades

Glass
Glass and lens breakage and scratches are not covered by warranty.

Chrome, Aluminum, and Stainless Steel Components
General rust and /or staining, blueing and/or yellowing, rustpits, and /or nicks caused by road debris, streaks, stains, and corrosion caused by severe wash solutions or road salts, are not covered under warranty.

Damages
Damages caused by accidents, negligence, abuse, misuse, improper operations, improper or insufficient maintenance services, road hazards, chemical stains, storage, transport, or operation at excessive speeds, and loading beyond rated load capacities are not covered by warranty.

Axle/Wheel Alignment/Balancing
Balancing of Tires, alignment of axles and wheels including thrust angles, camber, caster and tow settings are not covered by warranty.

Upholstery and Floor Mats
Repair or replacement of upholstery or floor mats caused by normal wear or abuse are not covered under warranty.

Refrigerators (Freightliner Installed Only)
Warranty on the refrigerator and refrigerator accessories is provided by the refrigerator manufacturer.

Miscellaneous Expenses
Premium charges and work not directly related to the repair or replacement of a warrantable part will not be covered under warranty.

Same examples include:
  • State, provincial, and local taxes
  • Road tests
  • Dynamometer testing
  • Travel expenses
  • Road service/calls; towing (with the exception of Century Plus warranty)
  • Loss of revenue
  • Customer and overtime labor
  • Downtime
  • Driver's expenses
  • Cost of rental equipment
  • Loss of perishable cargo
  • Shop Supplies
  • Communication charges
  • Repair or replacement or optional items not sold or installed by Alliance

Tires
Warranty on the original tires is provided by the tire manufacturer.

  • There are several Customer Protection Plans and Customized Coverage Plans available through Freightliner Corporation. Call (503) 735-8780 for detailed plans and costs. These plans are available up to 90 days from the warranty start date.
  • Be sure to purchase genuine Alliance parts through your authorized dealer for all makes of vehicles, brands and competitive process. Alliance replacement parts come with a one (1) year unlimited mile warranty.
